Grinding vs. Grubbing — Which Your Job Needs
Stump grinding chews the stump down 6–12 inches below grade and leaves the chips as fill. It's fast, cheap, and right for lawns, landscaping and anywhere you just want to mow over the spot next month.
Stump grubbing pulls the stump and its main root ball out of the ground entirely with an excavator. It costs more, but it's the only correct answer under a future slab, driveway, pool or building pad — buried wood rots, and rot means settling and cracks years later. If you're building, grub; if you're mowing, grind. We'll tell you straight which one your project actually needs.

How deep do you grind?
Standard is 6–12 inches below grade — enough to replant grass or lay sod over the spot. Deeper grinds for replanting trees or shallow utilities are available on request.
What happens to the wood chips?
Your choice: leave them mounded to settle as fill, rake them into surrounding beds as mulch, or haul them off and backfill with clean dirt for a seamless lawn repair.
Can you get into a fenced backyard?
Usually yes — compact grinders fit through a 36-inch gate. Tell us your access and we'll bring the right machine.
Do you remove stumps left by another tree company?
All the time. Tree services often fell and haul but skip the stump. We finish the job.
